The Logische Phantasie Lab (LoPh) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development and implementation of ethical approaches towards normativity and justice in times of climate change, the increasing digitization of society, and significant technological, scientific, and economic shifts concomitant with Industry 4.0.

About

The founding vision of Logische Phantasie Lab emerged in 2016, at an international conference on the vexing topic of Synesthesia of Law. The collective conversations generated by that event addressed entanglements of bodies, minds, animations and the political imaginaries through which we swim. The Lab continues that work in its contemplation of legitimacy as enmeshed in intensely networked sensory apparatuses, constantly being reconfigured, discontinuous yet categoric. The project thus reflects upon the formulations we call law and feel as justice, particularly through the linking of juridical crises to the symbolic enchantments we recognize and make sensible as ethical claims. Logische Phantasie Lab explores this complex atmospheric field of synesthetic forces, captured by the term matterphorics: a vividly energized, often paratextual power that is tangible yet ephemeral, regulatory yet shape-shifting, solidly normed but intimately affective, undisciplined yet effusively productive. The research projects undertaken by the Lab will track how all this matters: in physics and its diffractions, in algorithmic code and its gestural diffusions, in political theater and its material mimeses, in law and its suspensions, in journalism and its ellipses, in life and its limits.
